This is a private archive from a branch of a well-known family.
In 1735 and 1736 the head of this particular family, and his wife, died in South Yorkshire, leaving three small children - two sons and a daughter. Of these, we are mainly concerned with the younger son and the daughter (who spent most of their lives in and around Nottingham) and the descendants of the son. He was George Beaumont, who was curate at Gedling for a number of years and from late 1766 till his death in 1773, the Rector of St.Nicholas Church in Nottingham.
Initially the Nottingham Beaumonts kept up with their Yorkshire cousins, of whom there were several, not least because both the parents who died in 1735-1736 were called Beaumont, so there were both maternal and paternal Beaumont relatives.
Furthermore the Nottingham Beaumonts still retained property in Yorkshire (until the early c19).
Several generations of the family had loads of children, and (though I am aware of descendants in several countries) there is lots I don't know. Representatives of the family lived in Nottinghamshire until 1998, and retained a collection of papers and a strong sense of family history.
Basically, I now have all those papers. I'd like to keep the collected information together and make it more accessible to others. As I now live in Nottingham there is a sense of returning - to names that are familiar even if the places aren't.
While the family is quite well-documented, there have been some mistakes, and one or two of these have been copied from one author to another for so long that they have become widely accepted. I would like to be able to correct such things where I have the knowledge to do so, and to have my own mistakes corrected where possible.
I'll try and add things now and again, including images and documents.
I'd very much like if people contact me with particular information, including of course the source of the information.
